American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesThe May 6 primary energized Indiana in ways no one had seen in years. The Democratic presidential contest was the number one topic of conversation among ordinary Hoosiers, young and old, black and white, rich, poor, and middle class. It filled pages of our local newspapers and hours of local talk radio and TV news airtime for weeks.

Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832), German poet and dramatist said: "That which matters most must never be at the mercy of that which matters least." Applied to this election and the Clinton Spin Machine which I think is stuck just before the rinse cycle (OK, so I'm writing this while my floor dries from being christened by my newly busted washer), I think Goethe wo

I heard this story this morning and felt a little "off" all day. It's part one of a story about sexual identity and how it manifests in transgendered children and what two sets of parents did in support of their very young sons--as young as 2 or 3.

I listen to Morning Joe before starting my workday, but then, I watch O'Reilly and Glen Beck--when I can keep my ears from bleeding--and haven been known to visit hate group sites, just so's I know what they're up to, ya'll.

Via Jake Tapper:
Sen. Barack Obama moved into the lead today in the last category that Sen. Hillary Clinton had claimed to have an edge -- support among the Democratic Party's superdelegates.
The Illinois Democrat grabbed the superdelegate lead thanks to a switch by New Jersey Rep. Donald Payne and an endorsement from previously uncommitted Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon.

Motivated by soaring prices at the pump, record numbers of commuters are parking their cars in favor of mass transit.
but that said, I find this bit of logic from Chris Bowers at Open Left pretty compelling.
There may be a silver lining in the recent decision of the Michigan Supreme Court to erase domestic partnership benefits for same-sex couples under its new "Marriage Protection" constitutional amendment. Before it passed the folks of the Rightous Right told everyone in state wide ads and elsewhere that such benefits wouldn't be touched. Then after passage they flipped 180 degrees and argued the opposite in court. That silver lining is that it's waking up people to the fact that such "bait and switch" tactics work. Gary Welsh writes about this in Advance Indiana, and I cover the same territory for Indiana Equality here. If and when a successor to SJR7 in Indiana comes back next year, don't say we didn't warn you.

As Bill Clinton was wont to proclaim during the 1992 run-up to president, "It's the economy, stupid." He was--and is--so right. So, I found this nugget from Senator McCain so compelling:

On behalf of the Dr. Woody Myers campaign I would like to take this opportunity to extend an apology to the bloggers involved in the threatened legal action at the end of last week initiated by our attorney Justin Leverton.
The overwhelming media narrative this morning is that Obama is the presumptive nominee, BUT--here the commentator gets grave and concerned--it is by no means clear that the women who supported Clinton will vote for him in November.

This primary is a knuckle biter with only 40,000 odd votes separating Obama from Clinton.
Given that Lake County will be the last Indiana county reporting in (operating on CP time, no doubt), here's my tribute to Gary.
I'm getting ready to head out the door to Sheila's. We're going to watch the election results come in. I, the wine spritzer drinker, am going to be drinking gin...from my niece's silly straw.
