Let Me Get this Straight: The Black Guy's Getting a Pass Because...He's...Black?

Lalita Amos | 03/12/2008 - 09:42

This is still making my head hurt. Geraldine Ferraro, who made her initial comments on the matter in the Daily Breeze, continues in her curious belief that Barack Obama is getting a better shake because he's Black.

Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that he draws rock star crowds in the tens of thousands and leaves people with a message of hope so moving, touching and inspiring that they'll be willing to forego any other conversation about "substance" remarking that the ability to breathe life into a jaded people is an incredible talent.

What worries me about Ms. Ferraro's comments is that they harken to other assertions made, particularly about Blacks and women, that they are beneficiaries of give-away programs where qualifications aren't even considered. Oh, and if she knew she was only being used to get the nomination because of her gender and not her qualifications, she should have declined the offer. That would have shown the integrity she says is missing today.

Yes. She is knowledgable and has already established good relations with foreign heads of state.

No. Nothing against Hillary, but Bill is a loose canon and would be a constant distraction and/or embarrassment.
