American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesHere, in the midst of Women's History Month and just a scant two weeks after the sun set on Black History Month, I find myself incredibly disappointed in the Democratic Party.
That race and gender is being used against Democratic candidates by members of the Democractic Party disgusts me in a way that little else has.
President Clinton's comments before the South Carolina primary and Geraldine Ferraro's of the last several weeks have pointed out an inescapable fact to me: Blacks are fine with the Dems so long as they don't want the seat at the head of the table.
Senator Clinton "repudiated" Ms. Ferraro's comments, but didn't go far enough, given how she railed against any hint of mistreatment by "the boys" (remember how pissed she was when she thought she was being set up by a CNN debate moderator with the first question seemingly every time). The Democratic Party has touted itself as being the scion of racial and gender equality, but has shown itself by the Clinton campaign's lack of race fairness as having no real concern for Blacks--other than at election time. Real Democrats, to my thinking, should be burning up the wires to Howard Dean's office, telling him to rein the children in before they completely destroy the party.
And the Republicans only have to sit quitely by and do nothing. Senator McCain, when I say nothing, I do include not sending even more jobs overseas.
Here's what Keith Olbermann said so very, very well:
Senator Clinton has, on several occasions, announced that she's found her voice. Now, Senator Clinton, it's time you found your soul. Oh, and your guts.
