I'm Just Not Sure What Speech Buchanan Saw

Lalita Amos | 03/18/2008 - 20:24

Here's a little bit of how Senator Obama's speech may play in what blue collar voters will believe of Obama's speech, according to Joe Scarborough and Pundit Pat. What I found puzzling was how Mr. Buchanan could see Obama's speech as "grating" or that there was "the constant sense of putting the burden on the society for what's happened to the African-American community and not enough of the acceptance of responsibility of their own -- their own responsibility, frankly, for what's happened." This is the sentiment of one who apparently believes, as Ray pointed out earlier, that the very existance of Affirmative Action law has "fixed it" and that we should move on, making people be responsible for their actions and results.

I couldn't agree more. However, where Mr. Buchanan and I part company (aside from him shouting down Black, female peers with exhortations for them to just "shut up") is that only Blacks are being called upon to take responsibility. In his world, whites get a pass, like some kind of Golden Ticket.

No. Nothing against Hillary, but Bill is a loose canon and would be a constant distraction and/or embarrassment.
