American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesHave you heard the news? Viagra is 10 years old today, there are 30 million men taking it, and Pfizer has made 1.5 billion dollars selling it. Wow.
Now Pfizer announces it is developing pink Viagra for women. Isn’t that cute. (Boy Viagra is, of course, blue. Let no one ever accuse Pfizer of not planning ahead.)
As a middle-aged woman, I’ve got a few biological issues, but as far as I know, not one of them has anything to do with vasodilation, so I’m compelled to wonder exactly what ills pink Viagra will cure. In fact, considering the “Viva Viagra” commercials, I shudder to think what we’ll see when they start marketing it.
I hate to sound ungrateful to the good folks at Pfizer, who apparently have nothing in mind but great sexual performance for all of us right up to and maybe on our deathbeds, but my needs at this point are a little more basic: I’d settle for something I could safely take that would stop my hot flashes and let me get a good night’s sleep.

OK, in the movie, the Matrix, wasn't it the pink pill (or was it the red) that popped you out of the matrix and the blue pill that kept you plugged in?
There's something sinister going on here...I just know it.
Still, I'm getting more and more concerned with how very medicated we're getting as a country.
In the final analysis, Jefferson Airplane had the right of it when they sang: "one pill makes you larger..."

Not to worry, Rebecca. If the pink color lingers for more than four hours, just call the doctor.
