White House East

Lalita Amos | 04/18/2008 - 08:30

My brother, an Iraq I veteran, called to tell me about the new embassy in Iraq. A bit pissed off, he tried to explain to me--not only about the gargantuan size of the thing (the largest embassy on the planet)--but about what he feared it said about the US presence in the Middle East.

This embassy, which will cost billions to operate each year and house thousands, will help us fulfill Senator McCain's vison of an almost eternal US presence in the Middle East.

Listen for yourself. I'll see if I can find the plans for this thing, which my brother said he found online (for security reasons, I truly hope he was mistaken and I can't find them).

Also be sure to read this report from the Washington Post: U.S. Embassy in Baghdad declared ready - Washington Post- msnbc.com

The embassy is only one of the fiscally irresponsible expenses this adminstration has made in Iraq while letting stability in Afghanistan crumble.

Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater, no bid contracts, and on and on.

Current estimates are that the Iraq disaster will cost America on the order of $3 TRILLION!!!

I spoke with a returning Marine officer who had been stationed in Fallujah and he said the US is building 17 permanent bases in Iraq as the new military base of operations for the middle east so Bush can give the Saudi royal family some relief and remove US presence from Saudi Arabia.

This will go down in history and the worst mistake in American history, without question. In the long view it will make the Vietnam war look like an honest error.

Poll
Will the Choice of Biden and not Bayh Make it Harder for Obama to Win Indiana?
Yes. Evan Bayh would have energized Indiana Democrats and "tipped" the state.
0%
Maybe. But choosing Bayh would have made it much, much harder to win the election.
60%
No. Indiana voters know Bayh, and choosing him would have reflected poorly on Obama's judgment.
40%
Hard to say.
