American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesWell, I have been put in my place. Here I thought we had a complete asshole for president, insensitive to the welfare of the troops he has needlessly put in harm’s way in Iraq. Silly me.
Some of you may have known this, but I just found out that George W. Bush has given up GOLF as a sign of solidarity with the soldiers and their families. He hasn’t played since 2003.
What a guy. What a man. What sacrifice!
You can read all about it here.

"OK, (heh heh) what I really meant was--see--that I would continue to golf (heh heh), but I wouldn't enjoy it--see."
--President George Bush
(Tried to find something else snarky to say and I'm at a complete loss.)

"I remember when de Mello, who was at the UN, got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life. And I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do," said Bush.
Yes, it’s so difficult to focus on your next shot—truly, just not worth it—when your people will insist on pulling you off the golf course to tell you about pesky deaths in Iraq.
AS a matter of fact, last night on Countdown with Keith Olbermann he expressed his outrage over this farcical statement.
Not only is Bush's assertion offensive that he "gave up golf", but there are photos of him golfing after his alledged self imposed golf hiatus.
PLUS it wasn't even his idea.
He was on the links and when notified of the death of a known soldier, he was told, "perhaps Mr. President,, you should stop playing". Which was probably just a recommendation to stop playing AT THAT MOMENT!!!!
He needs to be run out of Washington on a rail, tarred and feathered and all of his resources liquidated and distributed to the families of the 4000 plus dead and the tens of thousands of maimed and mentally injured.
So, Rebecca, I stopped reading when I got to this:
"I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal," he said in an interview for Yahoo! News and Politico magazine.
"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them."
As of April 2007, President Bush had taken over 400 vacation days, clearing brush on the Crawford ranch (they should really look into their "brush problem") and adding to greenhouse gases.
He's given up golf?
Perfect.
