Gets My Vote

David Brooks suggested today that Obama should pick Sam Nunn or Tom Daschle because they could actually help him govern effectively.

Let me be on record publicly as saying I'll vote for Obama if he picks Nunn. I will, in fact, fly the first pig to DC to shake his hand.

I'd be curious to know who others think would make good running mates NOT because of their presumed electoral clout (I agree with Brooks that running mates usually make little difference in this regard), but because they'd help create a good administration.

Payday Loan Advocate | 10/09/2008 - 02:56 |  It’s no secret that the

It’s no secret that the economy is in the trash, and Americans are looking for some kind of relief. We are facing the worst financial crises since the Great Depression; folks are defaulting on their mortgage payments, fuel costs are outrageous, and unless you have a spotless credit history a loan might be out of the question. The middle class is struggling and the notion of the American dream is diminishing. This load doesn’t seem to be getting lighter, especially when politicians, who caused this mess, are trying to ban the one thing that could help you out in your time of need. In Washington, there has been a bi-partisan effort to hinder, even ban, the payday loan industry. These politicians tend to accuse the industry with what they call “predatory lending.” This commonly used term in Washington just shows how out of touch they are from Main Street. I’m sure that these politicians don’t know what it’s like to be a single father living paycheck to paycheck while trying to raise two children. A payday loan can be an excellent financial tool if used responsibly, but I guess they wouldn’t understand that. With that said, please educate yourself on the issues that affect you the most and exercise your right to vote.

Lalita Amos | 05/27/2008 - 22:10 |  You know, Art, I've been

You know, Art, I've been wondering much the same thing: after the first Tuesday after the first Monday this November, there are other considerations than who can help the candidate grab the high-backed seat at the grown-up table. In another blog post, I listed a dozen possibilities I gleaned from an article from HuffPo.

Of all of them, I really did like Jim Webb, a former Republican with extensive military experience. He'd be better if he had more direct economic experience.Webb is the closest thing to a frontrunner for Obama's VP these days. Joe Biden
and Bill Richardson  are solid foreign policy wonks, with with less economic experience than I'm comforatble with. If Senator Obama can swing it, I'd also like to see Chuck Hagel being considered. He's a Republican senator who has served on the Banking, Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committees.
