It's no secret that I was supporting David Orentleicher in the recent Democratic primary for 7th Congressional District. It wasn't that I had anything against Carson; I just preferred David, who has been one of the most effective and hardworking elected officials around.

But you've really got to hand it to Andre Carson--he voted AGAINST the obscene FISA "compromise," despite the fact that it was supported by Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and the House Democratic leadership (in a wholesale capitulation to the White House and the forces of darkness). That vote couldn't have been easy. It took courage for a first-term Congressman to stand up to the powers-that-be, especially since they had supported him politically and financially in his run for the office.

It was a principled act, and Andre deserves the thanks of his constituents, of whom I am one. So--THANKS, Andre! I hope this is a sign of things to come!
