American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesEvidently, some women who supported Hillary are still determined to "show" all the "misogynists" who voted for Obama, by voting for John McCain--whose voting history mades Bobby Riggs (remember him? the asshole Billie Jean King beat in that famous tennis match)look like a feminist.
Consider: McCain has voted against legislation that would decrease unintended pregnancies by providing insurance coverage for prescription birth control, promoting family planning services, implementing teen-pregnancy programs, developing programs to increase awareness about emergency contraception, and provide more women with prenatal health care. John McCain has, in fact, voted at least 20 times against women's access to family-planning services, including birth control.
By contrast, Senator Obama has voted to increase access to family-planning services and is the lead sponsor of a bill to end the birth-control pricing crisis for college students and low-income women.
Consider further:
• McCain has received a 0% pro-choice rating from Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America
• Since 1983, in votes in the House and the Senate (where he has served since 1987), McCain has cast 130 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues. 125 of those votes were anti-choice.
• McCain co-sponsored and voted for the Federal Abortion Ban.
• In 2005, McCain voted to uphold the “global gag rule,” which bars foreign nongovernmental organizations from receiving U.S. family planning assistance if the organization (using its own, non-U.S. funds) provides abortion services or information or advocates for pro-choice laws and policies in its own country.
• McCain has consistently voted against legislation requiring insurance companies to cover birth control.
• He voted against legislation that established criminal and civil penalties for those who use threats and violence to keep women from gaining access to reproductive health facilities.
• McCain voted to shut down the Title X family-planning program. This program provides millions of women with health care services ranging from birth control to cancer screenings.
• McCain has consistently voted against expanding access to programs that reduce pregnancy and the need for abortion and in favor of abstinence-only programs. He has cast more than 20 votes to block women’s access to birth control.
• Voted to impose a Federal Parental Consent Law on teens seeking birth control.
• McCain has pledged to fill Supreme Court vacancies with justices who will overturn Roe. V. Wade. McCain voted for four anti-choice nominees for the Supreme Court, including Justices Roberts and Alito.
McCain is on the wrong side of other issues that directly impact women and families:
• Voted against reauthorizing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program for five years.
• His health care plan provides $2 billion in tax cuts to the nation’s largest health insurance companies, but doesn’t require them to cover individuals with pre-existing conditions.
• He opposes the Fair Pay Restoration Act on the grounds that it will create too many lawsuits.
• When Congress was considering the Family and Medical Leave Act in 1993, McCain voted to suspend it unless the federal government certified that compliance wouldn't increase business expenses or gave employers financial assistance to cover any costs.
Yep--those pro-Hillary "feminists" will "show Obama"--by voting against everything women care about! Good move...
