"Slang White People Like"

MelissaT | 07/21/2008 - 06:32

One last nugget of fun to share before I clock out in about an hour and a half and drive home to curl up in a nice warm bed while the normal world enjoys their 9-5 day.... (sigh... I really need to win the lottery...)

I love reading Mother Jones. I always look forward to reading their most recent work, but then I came across a blog that left me feeling rather frustrated about the state of linguistics, slang and race in our current society. "Slang White People Like" (and "Slang White People Like, Part 2: The Bro-ening" ) hit a nerve with me. Perhaps I was just having one of those days where everything seemed to grate on my last nerve (as I tend to have more often the older I get- I swear I'm going to be one crotchety old woman some day...)

Anyhow, I'd forgotten about the blog and the follow up to it until just now. Just wondering what others on here think about it.

(I posted my own diatribe in response to the two articles in the comments sectuion of Part 2)

Poll
Will the Choice of Biden and not Bayh Make it Harder for Obama to Win Indiana?
Yes. Evan Bayh would have energized Indiana Democrats and "tipped" the state.
0%
Maybe. But choosing Bayh would have made it much, much harder to win the election.
60%
No. Indiana voters know Bayh, and choosing him would have reflected poorly on Obama's judgment.
40%
Hard to say.
