Over at Daily Kos, there is discussion of John McCain as a self-proclaimed "family values" candidate. Meaning, of course, that he's the anti-gay candidate.

Sunday, despite previous waffling, he came out foursquare AGAINST gay adoption, even if there are no other adoptive parents available. Loving and compassionate, no?

Of course, as the post reasonably notes, it takes a guy who left his wife and three kids after she was disfigured in an auto accident in order to marry the heiress he'd been screwing to REALLY lecture the rest of us about family values...

OK. Let me get this straight: McCain is FamVal's newest Superfriend. Isn't he the same John McCain who left his disabled wife for the 25 year old Paris Hilton prototype he'd been having an affair with?

The "traditional families" mantra from the GOP has gotten old as they keep having closets burn down around them or experience mistress eruptions. They point to character failings of Democratic contenders as if the have contracted leprosy while chanting "Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain" regarding their own misdeeds.

Let's face it: "character," as a campaign plank, has never impressed me. We have a rank history of pols (Democrat, Republican, Tory and Whig) who had no problem discriminating (or failing to act to prevent the same) in policy, practice and law against...

We've had a collection of very nasty men serve in public office who, along with their arrogant views on the people listed above, also claim moral superiority and champion "traditional family values."

A supportive, nurturing, loving home--something that the Republicans by their actions has done little to support even among straight members listed above--has been the only bulwark against the actions of the GOP.

Maybe they should stay out of it, since they've done so much to damage them...their own.

Yes. She is knowledgable and has already established good relations with foreign heads of state.

No. Nothing against Hillary, but Bill is a loose canon and would be a constant distraction and/or embarrassment.

Yes. We get two for one: a former President and a knowledgable Secretary of State.

No. Her judgment is flawed, as demonstrated by her vote for the Iraq War.
