Feminism & Gender Equality

I heard this story this morning and felt a little "off" all day. It's part one of a story about sexual identity and how it manifests in transgendered children and what two sets of parents did in support of their very young sons--as young as 2 or 3.

I listen to Morning Joe before starting my workday, but then, I watch O'Reilly and Glen Beck--when I can keep my ears from bleeding--and haven been known to visit hate group sites, just so's I know what they're up to, ya'll.

The overwhelming media narrative this morning is that Obama is the presumptive nominee, BUT--here the commentator gets grave and concerned--it is by no means clear that the women who supported Clinton will vote for him in November.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control released a study that found that a staggering 3.2 million teenage girls have a sexually transmitted disease--that's 25% of girls between the ages of 13 and 19, kids.

While I'm busily putting together the text and audio from today's event to share with you, I thought I'd start with an open thread for those of you who were in attendance to post your thoughts and observations from the Barack Obama Town Hall Meeting.

More to follow!

Did anyone see Pat Buchanan vehemently tell co-panelist, Keli Goff to just "shut up" on the Dan Abrams show earlier this evening? Kelli, Pat and Rachel Maddow were discussing Geraldine Ferraro's comments about Barack Obama's apparent "special benefits card" which curses those who are against him with The Scarlet R (racist)?

As an old white woman myself, its understandable that I hang around with other old white women. A lot of them. And you know what? Demographic traitors that we are, not one of us is supporting Hillary Clinton. We're all Obama fans.

Anecdotes aren't data...but anyone who believes you have to support Hillary Clinton to be a credible feminist is living in an alternate universe.

I've been waiting, hopefully, for the voices of our "Black leadership" to come out strongly against this brutal killing.

Nothing. This from The Root:

The good ole boys at GOP central are trying to figure out how they can exploit the race or gender of the Democratic nominee.

I’ve had it. And the 2008 election system has just started.

According to the pollsters, I am one of those “older female voters” who can be counted on to support Hillary Clinton because, after all, we’re so much alike. We share a gender.

This may come as a big shock to the so-called “analysts” who like to slice and dice the electorate into “interest groups” and “market niches” based upon some wonky version of identity politics, but women - even those of a “certain age”- are not a monolithic voting bloc.

Now, some might argue that, because it was a woman calling anoth

"Sister, are you with us?"

As those of you reading my blog posts are sure to already know, I'm getting (have gotten) immensely cynical about this election cycle (and, joy, there's so much more to go). Hillary is isn't man enough, Barack isn't Black enough and the host of swaggering Republicans (oh, yeah, and the remaining Dems) are so white they glow in the dark. No one is questioning their racial or gender pedigree.
