I heard this story this morning and felt a little "off" all day. It's part one of a story about sexual identity and how it manifests in transgendered children and what two sets of parents did in support of their very young sons--as young as 2 or 3.

I'm still on vaycay and imagine my shock when I read this:

This is why organizations like the ACLU and Americans United are so important....

...typing and erasing line after line as I try to find something that doesn't just start and end with cuss words.

A brief but thoughtful discussion of the unfortunate events surrounding the FLDS church in Texas appears in this “Sightings” piece (Note from BlogMistress: link fixed).

I'm still following the situation in Texas with the Fundamentalist LDS cult...er, church--no, cult! So is Ed Brayton of Dispatches from the Culture Wars:

I'll bet this is something most of you don't know about me: I'm a gun owner.

Signaling increased cooperation amongst low-wage workers, cleaners from five U.S. cities traveled to Indianapolis to pledge support for Indianapolis janitors who are fighting at the bargaining table for the good jobs with health care that Indianapolis needs.

Over at the ACS blog, a post that summarizes the "Yoo memo" that has surfaced most recently:

I heard this story on NPR this morning, and thinking that the essence of the story was about censorship, I tracked it to learn more.

On March 27, Secretary of State. Condoleezza Rice in a wide-ranging press conference, responded to a questions about race in the U.S. Given that, to my knowledge, she's never weighed in on the subject of race, I was surprised that she did it and did it rather emphatically.

This from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library (In a few places, I mirrored my use of the highlighter and pen I used when I read the pen-and-paper version of this document earlier):

And while we're picking apart every jot and tittle of Obama's speech, China Cuts Off Access to Western News Sites:

While I'm busily putting together the text and audio from today's event to share with you, I thought I'd start with an open thread for those of you who were in attendance to post your thoughts and observations from the Barack Obama Town Hall Meeting.

More to follow!

Love our public service officers....

have you heard about a Chicago women that was arrested for stepping 30 ft. away from her locked insight and secures vehicle where she had a sleeping 6 month old sleeping inside to let her other children donate to the Salvation Army.

The part I am very upset about is that the police chief is upset with the prosecutor for not prosecuting the women.
