Have you heard the latest?
Not only has Phil Gramm told Americans there is no recession, its all in our heads, but now we learn that he invested in a soft core porn film through encouragement of his brother-in-law (BIL).
His BIL showed Phil the movie "Truck Stop Women - No Rig Is too Big" and invited him to invest $15,000! AND HE DID!
This morning I watched a newsclip of President Bush’s Tuesday press conference (the one that bumped Bad-News Bernanke off the air). At one point, as he defensively answered reporters’ questions about the economy, he made a disdainful remark about MoveOn.org.
I don’t even remember exactly what he said—what struck me and has stayed with me all day was his disdain. Has he ever, do you suppose, considered that the people who make up MoveOn.org are also American citizens, and that he is also answerable to them? I can’t remember a president in my entire lifetime who publicly exhibited such hostility toward people who disagreed with him. His entire demeanor seemed to say, “you don’t like me, fuck you.”
That would be fine if he wasn’t the leader of our country, which implies he should have a few leadership skills. He simply does not. He doesn’t even have enough basic poise to hide his contempt for ordinary Americans who disagree with his policies.
As many of you know, CNN will be launching its series "Black in America" on 23 July with its Black Women and Familes program. The second day will focus on Black men.
As you know, I've been out of pocket for a week or two, trying to catch up on my life and business before the final push towards the master's degree. Just so you don't think I've been slacking, here is my take on things that have been giving me heartburn over the last two weeks.
Enjoy!

For decades now the Rev Jesse Jackson has asserted himself as one of the key voices of civil rights in the US and abroad. His gaffe on Fox Noise I mean News, was bad for so many reasons.
First - Who in their right minds goes on Fox News?!?!?!
Second - When will Jackson think before he opens his mouth?

OK, OK,
I know the GOP is a bunch of self righteous, know it alls but when Dr. Phil Gramm, Senator the creator of Senator McCain's economic policies says we are all a bunch of whiners and are just suffering from "mental recession"
When Senator McCain is video taped for the longest painfully "pregnant" pause in history when asked why viagra is covered by insurance and birth control is not.

I know that Indiana doesn't have a U.S. Senate race in 2008. But 33 other states do. And anyone following the news over the last year-and-a-half has read about Senate Republicans filibustering anything and everything that moves, breaking the record for filibusters in a two-year Congressional session in less than one year!

Chuck Todd of MSNBC made the following point a couple of days ago:
"Be careful over-interpreting the independents number for McCain in current polls. The reason he's doing well among indies is that a growing slice of them are former Republicans.

At MyDD, there's further discussion of the implications of the SUSA poll that found McCain and Obama essentially tied in Indiana:

Daily Kos reports on a recent SUSA presidential poll from our very own home state of Indiana. The poll shows Obama ahead of McCain! By only one measly point, well within the margin of error, true...but this is INDIANA. Bush got 60% of the vote in 2004, by which time sane people knew he was a disaster.

Good thing, too! Partisans can argue the merits--strategic and substantive--but this observation in a longer post at Daily Kos caught my ex-Republican eye:
There's one other delicious irony at work -- don't you find it funny that McCain, the Republican, is embracing government funding for the election while Obama, the Democrat, would rather be self-reliant?
